Uncharted creator Amy Hennig has properly revealed her upcoming Black Panther and Captain America game, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
Announced back in 2022 as an unnamed Marvel game, Marvel 1943 sees Steve Rogers team up with King T’Challa to fight Hydra forces in the midst of the Second World War. Details are still scarce, but we now have a title and a first look at the game.
Launching in 2025, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an entirely unique take on the Marvel universe. With EA working on an open world Iron Man game made in Unreal Engine 5, as well as a Black Panther game, Hennig’s upcoming war drama is unlike any other.
Marvel 1943 is also being created in Unreal Engine 5 and aims to use some of the engine’s best features to bring its period drama setting to life. This includes the stunning Lumen lighting technology and the Nanite asset compressor.
A stunning trailer released at State of Unreal shows a first look at the beautiful superhero game. One shot shows T’Challa clambering across tree branches whilst another shows Captain America running through a gorgeous snowy field. Eventually, both characters meet up and battle, likely before they join forces in the end.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra doesn’t appear to be live service schlock like Marvel’s Avengers or, dare we say, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. Instead, the game appears to be wholly focused on providing players with an engaging narrative adventure, a staple of Amy Hennig’s titles for decades now. With the Uncharted creator also working on a new Star Wars game, the future looks incredibly bright.
Amy Hennig’s Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra releases sometime in 2025 for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5 and PC. More Marvel games are currently in development across multiple studios, including Marvel’s Blade at Dishonored studio Arkane Lyon.
