Marvel Rivals is officially coming to consoles and those who play it on PlayStation 5 will get an exclusive skin for Spider-Man. Fans were expecting this skin to be his Advanced Suit from the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, but that isn’t the case at all, to our surprise.
PlayStation Blog showed off the PS5 exclusive costume for Spidey and it’s a unique take on the “Scarlet Spider” costume from Marvel Comics. Before any Ben Reilly fans get too excited, this is actually an alternate take on Kaine’s Scarlet Spider costume, with the post acknowledging it. It’s not an entirely faithful interpretation however, as this version has some gray mixed with black for some reason.
Sony getting an exclusive outfit for Marvel Rivals is far from surprising, though we would have preferred a better-looking suit for Spidey. While fans should wait for a full look at the costume, this isn’t the best version of Kaine’s Scarlet Spider outfit, not by a longshot.
Fans who’ve played the DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man have unlocked this outfit and it looks a lot better than the upcoming Rivals version. The original suit’s simple red and black suit is a lot more appealing to the eyes than whatever Rivals cooked up for fans. Hopefully, the actual Kaine suit is unlockable or is even a color variant for Spider-Man in the game.
Marvel Rivals is expected to be a massive hero shooter, as this free-to-play title is making great use of the comic publisher’s iconic characters. Aside from Spider-Man, the game’s roster has a great mix of favorites from the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four. There’s a lot to like with this game thus far, though the free-to-play nature has forced fans to keep their guard up.
At the time of writing, there is still no proper release date for Marvel Rivals. The PS5 beta for this shooter will be this coming July, so fans will be able to try it out. All PS5 owners will get the aforementioned Scarlet Spider costume for Spider-Man.
