The Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection is seen by many as long overdue, finally giving players more readily accessible versions of these classic fighters. Capcom has gone above and beyond with this collection, as they’ve made previously unplayable boss characters fully-playable in this new release.
On the game collection’s official website (via Fighting Game Anniversaries), it was revealed that X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, and Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter will include playable bosses. Magneto and Juggernaut are playable in X-Men, while Doctor Doom, Thanos, and Anita can be used in Marvel Super Heroes. The iconic Cyber-Akuma is also playable in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter.
Prior to the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, these characters weren’t playable in these games, respectively. While there are hacked roms that can make these bosses playable in the game, this is the first time they’re playable in an official capacity. Needless to say, expect these characters to be banned from official tournament play.
Fans would have been happy if they just got a port of Marvel vs Capcom 2 on Switch and current consoles, but the devs went even further with these ports. Based on everything we’ve seen thus far, these could be the definitive versions of these fighting games and we’re getting them this year.
Overall, there is a lot to like about the upcoming Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, as it gives fans seven arcade classics to play through. There’s something to like about every game in this collection, from the Jim Lee art in X-Men: Children of the Atom to the great music in Marvel vs Capcom 2.
The Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection will be coming out on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime this year. It’s a bit odd that this collection isn’t coming to Xbox Series or PS5, but most fans will be able to play this when it eventually comes out.
