Breakdown
- A tree prop from the Minecraft film has made its way online
- It looks like a really good prop, getting fans excited
- This could mean more practical effects
The upcoming Minecraft movie is going to be odd, especially since it’s going to be live-action instead of CG animation. However, it seems that the production for this movie is going to go hard, as the film’s Voxel tree has made its way online.
While fans aren’t going to go crazy over a tree, seeing it in the flesh (via Discussing Film) is still a sight to behold. Practical effects aren’t as common in Hollywood movies these days, so seeing actual Voxel trees made with actual materials is pretty cool. This could have been a CGI background, which isn’t bad, but making them practical will always feel more immersive.
Now that we’re done gushing over the tree, this doesn’t mean that the upcoming Minecraft film is going to be good. Granted, most of us don’t know what the plot is going to be about, so we’re going to have to wait for a plot synopsis soon.
Some major talent are contracted to this movie, including Jason Momoa and Jack Black, the latter of whom has already been in two video game films. Black appearing in a third video game movie shows that he’s passionate about the medium, so here’s hoping he’s written well.
Even if it’s not the coolest video game to like, Minecraft continues to be one of the most popular video games out there. Nintendo forced Steve and his friends to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for a reason, as the survival sim still has millions of players to this day. It might not be the coolest game to like these days, but it lets kids go crazy with their imagination.
Details on the upcoming Minecraft movie are still pretty slim, aside from these tree props. Still, if this means more practical effects throughout the whole film, this could end up being something special. Here’s hoping that they end up using props for the zombies, which are a constant presence in the games.
