Capcom has confirmed that more Resident Evil remakes are in the works following the success of Resident Evil 4 Remake. With multiple games in the series still ready to receive the remake treatment, Capcom is all ready to capitalise on the series’ hype train.
Revealed in a Japanese PlayStation conference, via IGN, Capcom revealed plans for more Resident Evil remake titles in the near future.
Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo told attendees that the company will announce the next Resi remake game when it’s ready.
When asked if Capcom was looking to make more remakes in the Resident Evil franchise, Anpo succinctly replied: “Yes.”
“We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well,” Anpo said. “Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more.”
Anpo stopped before revealing what the next remake in the series will be. However, many fans have already expressed desire for multiple Resi remakes, and one is essentially all-but confirmed at the time of writing.
Following the end of Resident Evil 4 Remake and its Separate Ways DLC, it became clear that Capcom is looking to recreate its controversial sequel. With the title criticised for racist depictions back in 2009, the title may need more attention to remake than prior games in the series.
Alongside a remake of Resi 5, fans have been clamoring for a remake of the canonical spin-off game Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Released back in 2000, the Dreamcast game follows Chris and Claire Redfield in a prison following the events of Resi 2 and 3.
With Code Veronica being one of the lesser known titles in the series, it would be good to see the game get the full remake treatment. While it may not have been as popular as other games in the franchise on launch, it is still an important part of the series’ narrative.
Anpo explained that the next remakes in the series will continue to be developed in the studio’s killer RE Engine, saying the tech “has greatly benefited the speed of development.”
Resident Evil 4 Remake is available right now on Xbox Series, PS4, PS5, PC, and even iPhone. The game also has a VR launching on PSVR 2.
