Breakdown

  • The Fallout TV series has resulted in a huge spike in players
  • PC players are trying to mod their games en masse
  • Mod websites like Nexus Mods can’t keep up with demand

The release of Amazon’s Fallout TV show has resulted in huge issues for Nexus Mods, the biggest mods hosting website on the internet. With fans returning to the series or even experiencing it for the first time, the modding website has been smashed with extremely high traffic.

With eager fans scouring for the best Fallout 4 mods or even mods to turn Fallout into the Halo horror game of our dreams, Nexus Mods has been forced to issue a traffic warning to fans.

The Nexus Mods Status Page warns fans of “degraded performance” during this period. At the time of writing, the website is still experiencing “heavy traffic” alongside planned maintenance.

Nexus Mods first informed fans of issues last Friday following huge spikes in usage of the site’s Fallout mods. However, that spike in traffic has only continued despite the service twice adding “extra resources” to combat demand.

Over the past few days, fans have noticed slower downloads, issues with grabbing mod files and slower-to-load pages in general. This poor performance has also affected the best Skyrim mods, the best Stardew Valley mods, and pretty much every other game’s mods as well.

With the Fallout TV show universally beloved, even by us, the series is seeing a huge spike in sales and installs. While some Fallout fans screamed about the series’ lore over Shady Sands and other minor inconsistencies, the beloved RPG series is now back in the spotlight.

Unfortunately, it’ll be many years until Fallout 5 releases, but the TV show should tide fans over until then. After all, we have to wait for both Starfield DLC and The Elder Scrolls 6 release date before we can even think about a new Fallout game.

With the Fallout TV series already greenlit for Season 2, there will at least be some content for fans to enjoy. No Fallout New Vegas 2, though. We can’t have everything.
