After selling over five million copies in just three days, open world Pokémon clone Palworld is on everyone’s minds, including PlayStation’s head of indies Shuhei Yoshida.
Despite being marred with plagiarism controversies and a barrage of death threats, Palworld’s mixture of Valheim and Pokémon has proven extremely popular. In our review, we thought the game’s early access state was a really fun time.
However, Palworld is currently only available on Xbox and PC, but PlayStation executives are already looking to bring the game to PS5. There’s no Palworld PlayStation port at the time of writing, or a Palworld Nintendo Switch port, but the former may be happening sometime soon.
Responding to a tweet on the Palworld Japanese Twitter account, Yoshida congratulated developer PocketPair for its huge success. This led to a fan asking the PlayStation exec to “please support SIE so that the PS5 version can be released as soon as possible”.
Shuhei Yoshida quickly responded to the fan, saying “Yes” while tagging PlayStation partner development executive Jingwen Zhu.
At the time of writing, Palworld developer PocketPair has made it clear that a PS5 version isn’t in the works yet. On the game’s FAQ, fans can read: “We don’t have plans for this at the moment, but will consider it during development.”
With intervention and funding from PlayStation, a Palworld PS5 port could eventually become a reality. After all, we saw just how eager Xbox was to get Baldur’s Gate 3 on its platform following that game’s blockbuster success.
Nevertheless, it will be a while until the Palworld experience, and its adorable Paldeck, makes its way to PS5. Until then, there’s a lot of ways to experience the game. There are even ways to play Palworld on mobile that are a fairly great experience.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any update on a Nintendo Switch version. However, with the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, it seems unlikely the game will release on the current, underpowered hardware.
Palworld is currently available on Xbox Series and PC either as a paid product or via the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
