A brand new PlayStation State of Play digital conference is on the way. Releasing on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, the Nintendo Direct style livestream will reveal brand new games for PS5 and PSVR 2.
Announced in a quick blog post, the next PlayStation State of Play showcase will last 40 minutes and will introduce gamers to new video games and content updates for numerous titles.
The showcase will include extended looks at Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, two PS5 games coming to the console this year. However, Sony is keeping all other announcements for the conference under close wraps.
It seems that the conference may include the reveal of the highly rumoured Until Dawn PS5 port. Capitalizing on the upcoming movie based on the 2015 horror adventure game, the PS5 remaster is said to bring upgraded visuals and frame rates to the almost decade old game.
Via our sister site StealthOptional, there is a chance that Sony will reveal a brand new killer app for the PSVR 2 virtual reality headset. While not confirmed, the game is expected to be a spin-off of the Metro series, and is reportedly called Metro Awakening.
Alongside new gaming announcements, the showcase has also teased some special guests. This could include some of the stars of the Until Dawn movie, or even Hideo Kojima to properly reveal more information on the upcoming PS5 exclusive Death Stranding 2.
As for first-party game reveals, we wouldn’t expect too much to come out of the upcoming conference. As Naughty Dog has just finished with The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered and Bungie’s Destiny DLC and Marathon reboot delayed, there’s not much hope for a first-party PlayStation update during this showcase.
Nevertheless, Sony is always filled with surprises, as long as you’re not expecting too much. (We’re not expecting Wolverine, but it would be awesome to see!)
The January 2024 PlayStation State of Play will be broadcast on at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.
