A new Resident Evil has been announced. Don't expect a big AAA title, as it's a mobile game developed by JOYCITY in collaboration with Capcom, titled Resident Evil: Survival Unit.

Survival Unit will be a new strategy game that will launch on both iOS and Android with a global simultaneous release in the majority of regions (North America, Europe, and Asia).

Aniplex is also involved to some extent, as the original press release was shared by the company. Whether they will serve as publishers is still uncertain.

What Is Resident Evil: Survival Unit?

Very little is known about the project. As mentioned, it'll be a real-time strategy game that will reinvent the horror aspects of the franchise, making it a perfect entry point for newcomers who perhaps feel too intimidated by the spookiness of the mainline series.

A project like this could go either way

The press release revealed that an upcoming presentation focused on Resident Evil: Survival Unit will be broadcast on July 10 at 3:00 PM PT/6:00 p.m. ET.

JOYCITY is a South Korean developer with plenty of expertise in the realm of mobile games. Among their developed titles you can find Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War, Disney Realm Breakers, and The War of Genesis.

While Resident Evil: Survival Unit will look to expand the world of Capcom's horror franchise beyond its main story, the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will finally push the narrative forward in a big way

It'll be interesting to see if Survival Unit is in any way, shape, or form tied to RE: Requiem. Maybe serving as a prequel of some sort to prepare hardcore fans for the massive time jump the game is set to throw players into.

Alternatively, it could be just another quick cash grab that will cheapen the franchise for some easy money.
