A Like a Dragon x Roblox crossover? If you've ever dreamt of such a crossover: it's finally happening. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced that a virtual space inspired by the series formerly known as Yakuza is under development.
The project is being helmed by GeekOut, a company dedicated to crafting experiences in Roblox. They've previously worked on other licensed IPs, including Doraemon, Attack on Titan, and even the Japanese game show Takeshi's Castle.
In a press release, GeekOut expressed their desire to keep the charm and wackiness of the Like a Dragon franchise — no details about what type of gameplay the experience will boast, however.
This isn't the first SEGA property that has gotten a Roblox experience. Back in 2022, amid promotion for the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 movie, the company unveiled Sonic Speed Simulator. The experience is a free-roam rendition of Green Hills and Chemical Plant with some neat activities for players to tackle, including PvP races and collecting rings across both worlds.
Imagining a Like a Dragon x Roblox collaboration will be interesting. The series is known for wild set pieces and varied open-world activities like playing in arcades, racing go-karts, and even rebuilding an abandoned island resort.
It's clear that SEGA wants the Like a Dragon franchise to break into the mainstream in a big way. Sadly, the recent TV adaptation was far from the success they had anticipated. In the realm of gaming, fans have been feasting recently.
Earlier in the year, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii launched in February to solid reviews. The spin-off came hot off the heels of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, one of the best RPGs of 2024. High praise considering the likes of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Persona 3 Reload, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
We'll have all the details of the Like a Dragon Roblox experience once we know more about it. Could we get some karaoke? Only time will tell.
