Breakdown
- Sony is bringing back Star Wars: The Clone Wars for PS4 and PS5
- This re-release also comes with a new PS2 emulator, complete with new features
- Fans never expected to see this PS2-era game get a re-release
A forgotten Star Wars game is making a surprising comeback, as Sony is bringing one of the franchise’s more obscure PS2 games to the PSN store. Seeing this game get a re-release was surprising enough, but it also seems to be coming with a new PS2 emulator that fans are going to appreciate.
The folks at Gematsu spotted a PS Store listing for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a PS2 game released to tie-in with the film Attack of the Clones. Fans won’t have to wait long either, as this game is currently slated for a June 11 release.
PS Plus Premium subscribers are the real winners here, as they will get this Star Wars game with no additional purchase as part of the “classics” catalog. It’s worth noting that this title is one of the first “new” PS2 games coming to PlayStation systems, as everything else was previously re-released on the PS4.
What makes this re-release of Clone Wars even more interesting is that it will come with new features that weren’t in previous PS2 games. Clone Wars will come with rewind, quick save, and various video filters, which are features that previous PS2 releases didn’t have. It seems that Sony has finally upgraded their PS2 emulator, which will hopefully mean more of these releases in the future.
For those unaware, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released in October 2002 and received mixed-to-positive reviews upon release. Metacritic has rated the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube versions with low 70’s, with Nintendo’s system having the highest score of 73. It’s not a game fans should go out of their way to get, but those who love Star Wars should have some fun.
Until more details are revealed, it seems that The Clone Wars will be exclusive to PSN unless a company like Aspyr gets their hands on this. Aspyr handled previous re-releases for KOTOR and The Force Unleashed. Sony has made sure to make these classic games available for purchase for non-PS Plus users, so players can enjoy classics like Toy Story 2 and The Legend of Dragoon.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is coming to PS4 and PS5 on June 11.
