Breakdown

  • The Stardew Valley devs are struggling to bring the 1.6 update to consoles
  • ConcernedApe has acknowledged fans wanting the update, saying they haven't given up on the console version
  • Unfortunately, console players can't really do anything but wait for this update

The acclaimed Stardew Valley 1.6 update has been a big hit with PC fans, though console owners are wondering why they don’t have it yet. It turns out that the developer is struggling with the update, though they haven’t abandoned these systems and are still hard at work.

On Twitter, developer ConcernedApe acknowledged the console players’ desire for this 1.6 update, before saying they’re having difficulties with this system patch. Apparently, the game’s console ports require extra work to bring in the 1.6 update, so fans will have to wait a bit longer.

“I know that the console and mobile players are eager to play 1.6, and I am doing everything within my power to have the ports ready as soon as possible,” the developer said. “The ports require extra work beyond the PC version. There is also another patch for PC underway which is mainly some bug fixes.”

Console owners will eventually get Stardew Valley 1.6, but these fans will have to wait a bit more before their systems get this patch. At the least, the devs aren’t abandoning their systems and fans will get to enjoy it as soon as everything comes together. Every major update has been meaningful thus far and that won’t be changing anytime soon.

PC players are already in update 1.6.4, which fixed a number of issues that the game was plagued with. One of these issues was invisible spouses asking for babies, which sounds more like a horror film than anything in a relaxing farm simulator. These types of small issues are why console players have to wait for these patches a bit longer, since the PC is essentially the game’s testing ground.

Regardless of late updates, fans who want a good farming game should pick up Stardew Valley for whatever system they have. For anyone who just wants to plant vegetables and court anime characters, this is the game farming game enthusiasts should pick up.

Stardew Valley is readily available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
