If you were disappointed by Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at launch, its post-launch support likely frustrated you even more. Since its release, Suicide Squad's Season One update has introduced only one new playable character, a cutscene, and reskinned missions.

In a surprising move, the next update for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will add actual content to this struggling live-service game. While it still won’t include new campaign missions that the few remaining players have been craving, this update brings much-needed variety to the game.

The upcoming Season 1 - Episode 2 update, releasing today on May 23rd, introduces new enemies to challenge with your hard-earned loot and a brand-new mission type to diversify the repetitive gameplay structure.

For starters, Green Lantern-infused enemies have been completely reworked after their removal due to broken mechanics. Now, you'll need to shoot these enemies' glowing green constructs to strip their shields before you can deal direct damage. This requires better use of the game’s frantic movement mechanics to defeat these powerful foes.

The new update also adds Promotinaut enemies, a new support foe that evolves other enemies into more powerful versions. This means you'll have an enemy worth focusing on, or you'll risk helicopters turning into Lantern-infused helicopters, complicating your mission.

Next, developer Rocksteady has introduced a new mission type to the game for the first time since launch. You can now play through a brand-new piece of gameplay with the new “Out of Orbit” mission type. Found in the new "expanded" version of Joker’s Elseworld map, these missions task you with destroying corrupted Justice League Watchtowers as they phase in and out of the universe.

Alongside the Watchtowers themselves phasing between universes, so do enemies. A particularly nasty brute becomes even harder to fight as it gets ripped between universes while you’re battling it. Finally, the game’s multiverse concept is being utilized effectively.

Of course, the new Suicide Squad update also brings the usual slew of new weaponry. Described as a "villain's banquet of all-new gear," three tiers of new Two-Face Infamy equipment can be earned alongside Black Manta, Reverse-Flash, and Firefly weapons. You'll also find significant changes to the way Mastery Level progression is determined, as well as increased rewards from Metropolis missions.

Despite having fewer players than the delisted Marvel’s Avengers, fewer than the original Watch_Dogs, and being deemed a failure by Warner Bros, Rocksteady continues to work on updates for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Hopefully, in the future, new characters, mission types, and, crucially, new cutscenes will be added to bring some value to this live-service adventure.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available now on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
