It looks like The Sims 4 is fully embracing is taking a cue from live-service games, as the life sim is now introducing timed events. Naturally, players have mixed opinions about this, with most being negative over the game’s lack of content, despite multiple expansion packs.
OakieDokie on Twitter posted about these new activities, angered at this game for pulling this stunt. Anyone familiar with free-to-play games knows that exclusive rewards are available in these limited time events, forcing fans to play or pay for them. This is a very greedy tactic, which isn’t too surprising since EA is publishing the game.
Fans were already annoyed with The Sims 4 since the game is already lacking content that was in previous installments of this franchise. Expansion packs did add more content to the game, but they didn’t add enough and most Sims fans are still dissatisfied with this entry.
Modders have helped add more replayability to this title, with some even bringing The Phantom Thieves from Persona 5 to the game. While fans would prefer more official content from the devs, there’s nothing wrong with dedicated modders giving players extra activities to take part in.
The Sims 4 might be a free-to-play game now, but it didn’t start out that way and many fans paid for a pretty barebones experience. Despite the game getting consistent updates and expansions for years, most fans feel that this title still can’t compete with its predecessors. EA eventually made the game free-to-play to try and make something out of it, which leads us to these timed events.
While this isn’t quite a Battle Pass for the game, we wouldn’t be surprised if those end up coming after this. Most fans just want The Sims 5 to come out already, but it seems like that won’t be happening for a long time.
Curious fans can pick up The Sims 4 now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
