Critically acclaimed open-world Ghost of Tsushima is finally getting its long overdue sequel, titled Ghost of Yotei, set to launch in 2025 with Sucker Punch returning as lead developers.
Announced as the big surprise during the September 24 Sony State of Play, Ghost of Yotei looks to bring fans of the franchise back to the gorgeous feudal Japan depicted in Tsushima, with lush green fields and snowy mountainous backdrops as the game will take place in an entirely new region.
Ghost of Yotei is set almost 400 years after Ghost of Tsushima, which followed the adventures of legendary samurai Jin Sakai as he sought to free Tsushima island from a Mongolian invasion in 1274.
According to the trailer, Yotei will be set in 1603 and will follow the journey of Atsu. Players will explore the region around iconic Mount Yotei is located in Hokkaido, Japan's second-biggest island and the one furthest to the north.

This might be a bit of a letdown to fans of Ghost of Tsushima, as a big part of what made the open world such a fascinating experience for many is following the tale of Jin Sakai as he fought against the Mongolians. Even his own beliefs were forced to compromise his samurai honor code, getting his hands dirty to free his people.
In a PlayStation blog, Communications Manager at Sucker Punch Andrew Goldfarb stated: "We looked beyond Jin Sakai’s story and the island of Tsushima and shifted our focus to the idea of the Ghost instead.
While not much gameplay was shown, the trailer gave fans spectacular views of the landscapes they'll be able to visit and the weapons the new protagonist, Atsu, will be wielding throughout the story.
Sucker Punch confirmed Ghost of Yotei was built from the ground up with the PlayStation 5 in mind, so in case you were expecting a miraculous PS4 port, it's safe to say you can put that dream to sleep.
