While PlayStation gamers enjoy three Spider-Man games, Xbox gamers still have multiple years until Marvel’s Blade releases on Series S, Series X and PC.
Currently in development at Arkane Lyon, the team behind Dishonored and Deathloop, Marvel’s Blade has been worked on for at least two years already. However, the game’s release is currently four years away at the earliest.
Giant Bomb member and renowned Xbox leaker Jeff Grubb claimed on the most recent episode of the XboxEra podcast that Arkane’s Blade RPG won’t release until 2027. Additionally, this is an early internal target for the new superhero game, meaning we could be waiting until 2028 to play the title.
"Right now, internally, they are expecting that to be sold on store shelves and digitally in 2027," Grubb said. "That is the year that they are aiming for that game.”
With the Xbox Series X already three years old, Arkane’s Blade game could end up releasing extremely late in the generation, if not the start of the next generation. Unfortunately, this isn’t new for Xbox, especially this generation.
For example, Microsoft famously announced a reboot of Perfect Dark back during The Game Awards 2020. However, this announcement was a CGI reveal for the game while developer The Initiative hired developers for the project.
Essentially, these early trailers for games almost half a decade away are a recruitment drive for new developers to join the team. With this in mind, it’s entirely unsurprising that Blade is currently four years away at minimum.
Marvel’s Blade is one of the most exciting new projects for Xbox gamers. While it may not be as instantly hyped for the vast majority of gamers like Spider-Man is, the pedigree of Arkane Lyon makes Blade a very exciting prospect for Xbox gamers.
More Xbox exclusives are also many years away, including The Elder Scrolls VI. However, with the Xbox Game Pass service promoting smaller titles like Hi-Fi Rush, the platform could thrive with smaller games while we wait years between major releases.
