It’s no mystery that everyone has been making fun of Overwatch 2 now that Marvel Rivals is out, but Blizzard has just revealed that they are cooking up a huge collaboration that might get more people excited for the OG hero shooter.
Avatar: The Last Airbender has had crossovers with Fortnite and Smite, and now it’s time for some ATLA-inspired cosmetics to come to Overwatch.
Avatar Crossover Announced by Blizzard
Blizzard recently revealed that Overwatch will collaborate with the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
No official details have been revealed, but some skins have leaked online revealing Avatar-inspired skins for Zenyatta (Aang), Orisa (Appa), Genji (Zuko), Kiriko (Suki), and Venture (Toph).
Besides the skins, fans should expect some other cosmetics to be dropped, like stickers and player banners. It’s possible that the collab could also reveal some highlight intros and emotes for characters that didn’t get a skin.
Venture Capital
One common gripe that the game has been getting for a while is that non-binary hero Venture has not gotten any interesting skins since they came to the game. With the Avatar collab, though, they get a very fitting skin based on Earthbender Toph. Even Venture’s drill gets an interesting badger mole overhaul; in the Avatar lore, badger moles were the original earthbenders, and they were also the animals that taught Toph how to move the Earth and see with her bending.
Admittedly, many people aren’t happy that Kiriko is the one to get a new skin again. Some fans thought it was time for ATLA characters like Katara and Sokka to get some DLC love. Symmetra may seem like a good choice for a Katara skin, but maybe Mei could work well as a waterbender since she already works with ice.
It’s also probably way out there, but Junker Queen seems like a character who is crazy enough to have Sokka skin, and she can have a boomerang instead of a knife and ramble about cactus juice. It would seem unfair to give Genji a Zuko and a Sokka skin.
Fight the Good Fight
It’s admittedly been an interesting week for the Avatar fandom. Besides the tease of an upcoming collaboration with Overwatch, there has also been a leak of some plot details and concept art for the upcoming Avatar series after The Legend of Korra.
While no official details have been revealed, many of the leaks complement each other, and it does seem like the new Avatar will be even younger than Aang when he’s introduced in The Last Airbender. It’s also rumored that the Four Nations will no longer exist, thanks to a cataclysmic event that resulted in the death of Avatar Korra.
It’s going to be wild.
The Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender collab is expected to drop on Dec. 17. The game is now playable for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
