Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a faithful remake of the Gen IV, Nintendo DS game. Auto Save
Fortunately, when you load up Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and jump straight into the Sinnoh Region, autosave will be enabled automatically. With autosave on, players need not worry about much, Your game will save when travelling and at all crucial moments, so you don't need to worry about putting down your game.
Manual Save
While the autosave function is nice, there are undoubtedly players out there who may want to use manual save. To do this, you need to open up your menu by pressing 'X' and navigate to 'Options'. There is an 'Autosave' option here, where you can toggle between Auto and Manual. By selecting 'Manual' and saving changes to your settings, the game will no longer autosave.
Players with manual saving on will need to open their menu by pressing 'X', then select 'R' to save their progress. Players using autosave can simultaneously save manually whenever they feel the need to by doing the same process, too.
