As you make your way through Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you'll eventually become League Champion and unlock the National Pokédex. You'll then also be able to visit Ramanas Park, and can go shiny hunting for 400+ Pokémon. For this, the Chain Counter Pokétch app is a must-have.
In this guide, we explain how to get and use the Chain Counter Pokétch app in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
How To Get The Chain Counter App
First and foremost, to get the Chain Counter app in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you must have battled all eight gyms and the Elite Four to have become League Champion. Then, you'll need to have also completed the Sinnoh Pokédex and spoken with Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town to unlock the National Pokédex.
Following all of this, the Professor will then mention Ramanas Park. You must travel here using the Surf Hidden Move south of Sandgem Town and navigate Route 221 to eventually get there. Once you arrive, Professor Oak will greet you upon entering the building. He will simultaneously gift you the Chain Counter app before leaving!
How To Use The Chain Counter App
The Chain Counter app in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will show you your top three Poké Radar chains ranked along the bottom, and your current chain will appear along the top. You can primarily use the app as a simple Chain Counter, or, for those who are shiny hunting, this app proves vital.
Whenever a chain of 40 or more is reached, the chances of that Pokémon appearing as a shiny Pokémon will be dramatically increased: your chances of encountering a shiny go from 1 in 4096 to 1 in 99. Whatever you do, however, do not break the chain! Or, as you can imagine, your chances of encountering a shiny decrease again.
There you have it! That's how to get the Chain Counter Pokétch app in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It's a nifty tool for shiny hunting, or can just be amusing to see exactly how many times you can encounter Bidoof in one go.
