If you thought you'd managed to catch all the legendaries in Pokemon GO, think again. You can now get Galarian Articuno in Pokemon GO, adding a regional spin to the Ice-type behemoth we first saw in Gold and Silver. If you want to get your hands on this regional variant before it rotates out of the wild, here's what you need to do.
In this Pokemon GO guide, we'll run through exactly how you can catch Galarian Articuno. That's alongside a look at the new variant's type, as well as how long we expect you'll be able to catch it for.

How Do I Catch Galarian Articuno in Pokémon GO?
Galarian Articuno will appear in the wild, meaning you can tap on it when visible and throw one of your Pokéballs in an attempt to catch it. However, it won't just show up in the wild as usual, because there's one step you need to take beforehand.
Yes, you'll need to equip one of the Daily Adventure Incense items for any chance of catching this Pokémon. It's a fairly new addition to the game, arriving recently with a robot NPC giving you one to use for various Special Research tasks.
Unlike usual incense, it only lasts for fifteen minutes. However, as the name suggests you'll get a new Daily Adventure Incense each day you log in, so there should always be one at your disposal.
With the Daily Adventure Incense active, there's a slim chance that Galarian Articuno will show up in the wild. From there, it's business as usual to catch it.
Pokemon GO Galarian Articuno Spawn Rates
- Spawn Rate: Unknown
- Catch Rate: Around three percent
- Flee Rate: Around 90 percent (after a failed catch attempt)
There's no concrete information regarding how common or rare Galarian Articuno is in Pokemon GO just yet. It takes a long time to get any proper data as well, with groups like Silph Road taking weeks (if not months) to run the research necessary to pull accurate figures.
Basically, there's a very slim chance that you'll see Galarian Articuno spawn during your 15-minute Daily Adventure Incense. And even if it does, you need to hope you catch it with its three percent base catch rate before its 90 percent flee rate resets the whole ordeal.
What Type Is Galarian Articuno?
As with the base Articuno in Pokémon GO, this Galarian variant is a Flying- and Ice-type legendary. The chances are this new version will perform very similarly to its original, with more of an aesthetic change than anything else.
Since Galarian Articuno does not appear in Pokémon GO raids as of right now, you don't need to worry too much about counters. Unless you encounter one in the Battle League, you'll rarely come into a battle with Galarian Articuno.
How Long Will Galarian Articuno Remain in Pokémon GO?
One thing we don't yet know is how long Galarian Articuno will remain in Pokémon GO for. The chances are they'll be around for as long as this current incense event lasts for, so there should be a few weeks for you to try and get your hands on the new legendary.
That's it for our look at how to get Galarian Articuno in Pokémon GO! If you've already managed to catch it, then feel free to check out our Great League tier list if you fancy taking it to battle.
