March 17, 2023: The March Ditto disguises are back to normal.

Finding Ditto in Pokemon GO isn't the easiest thing. A revolving door of Ditto disguises means the little transforming blob is cosplaying as other Pokémon and won't reveal its true nature until after you catch it. For that reason alone, catching a Ditto has become its own achievement.

While Ditto won't help you against the Pokémon GO raid bosses or complete the latest Field Research tasks, it is a unique monster and necessary if you want to complete the ever-expanding Pokédex.

We'll take you through all Ditto disguises and how to find and catch Ditto in Pokémon GO. Keep in mind that the list of disguises changes over time, much like the updates for Team GO Rocket Grunts, so make sure to check back as updates for the game rollout.

Pokémon GO Ditto disguises (April 2023)

The current list of potential Pokémon GO Ditto disguises are as follows:

  • Ekans
  • Ghastly
  • Spinarak
  • Natu
  • Surskit
  • Numel
  • Bidoof
  • Finneon
  • Lillipup
  • Dwebble
  • Swirlix

There are close to a dozen Ditto disguises right now. You'll never see this Pokémon's model on the world map view like the rest. Instead, you just have to catch a Pokémon it's known to disguise itself as and hope it happens to be a Ditto.

In the past, Ditto could be caught from Research Breakthrough rewards, but that's no longer the case.

The gelatinous blob is back to being a pain to catch, and unless you catch absolutely everything you see, you'll need to know the Ditto disguises for April 2023 if you're to have any chance of adding it to your collection.

Should I catch Ditto in Pokémon GO?

Besides getting one to complete your Pokédex, there are other reasons to seek out Ditto disguises in Pokémon GO. Sometimes, a specific in-game quest—like the "Let's GO, Meltan" mission—will have it listed as a requirement. If you can't find one, you won't be able to progress.

If you're churning through Ditto disguises with no luck, consider investing in a Pokémon GO Plus device.

It won't increase the odds of a Ditto appearing, but it will automate the process of catching any nearby Pokémon. That way you won't have to feel disappointment with every catch. Just do you daily walk, come back, and check through your box to see if Ditto showed up. Easy.

Can Ditto be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes! Finally, you can catch a shiny Ditto in the wild in Pokémon GO. The purple blob we all know and love can turn out to be a blue-ish turquoise blob instead, and we're much happier for it.

You'll also notice that several of the Pokémon that Ditto can transform into can be shiny, however, the two are not linked. If you find a shiny version of any of these Pokémon - for instance, a shiny Drowzee - it will not transform into a Ditto (shiny or otherwise).

However, regularly coloured versions of these Pokémon can transform into Ditto - and it could be shiny, even though the Pokémon you encounter is not!

Other ways to catch Ditto in Pokémon GO

The Pokémon GO: Kanto Tour event introduced every Generation I shiny form in the game, including Ditto. For anyone that purchased the ticket for the event, there is special research that can be completed for a guaranteed shiny Ditto.

Catching one in the wild is technically possible, but it's incredibly unlikely due to how rare Ditto already is. The Kanto Tour made catching one far more feasible for many players that own an event ticket.
