Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to be rather different to traditional Pokémon titles, with battling being more seamless, Pokémon being rideable, and more avenues for players to explore. However, one question has been on the tip of the tongues of every player... will the game be fully open-world?
With many players gearing up for what has previously looked like an open-world Pokémon title, it is now known that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will not be as open-world as initially imagined. The Pokémon Company have shared further details about the world of Legends: Arceus and it's map, which we have explained here.
Is Pokémon Legends: Arceus Open-World?
On August 10th, 2021, The Pokémon Company shared a statement with Kotaku about the state of Pokémon Legends: Arceus world. The title is set to be more like the Monster Hunter series, with there being open-world areas of the map, rather than an entirely open-world map.
The Pokémon Company's statement told players everything they needed to know. Sharing that only some areas will be open-world, players will have to regularly return to their Base Camp to update their studies:
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Jubilife Village will serve as the base for surveying missions. After receiving an assignment or a request and preparing for their next excursion, players will set out from the village to study one of the various open areas of the Hisui region. After they finish the survey work, players will need to return once more to prepare for their next task. We look forward to sharing more information about exploring the Hisui region soon.
With this news from The Pokémon Company, it is clear to see that Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a game with open-world areas for battling and exploring, but won't be quite as open-world as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or other Nintendo titles. Nonetheless, this is still a big step for Pokémon , and something to be excited about!
Pokémon Trainers are going to start at their base in Jubilife Village, before being assigned tasks that will take place in open-world areas of the overall map. Then, players will return to the base to take on more research in other areas of the Hisui region. Either way, the new instalment in the Pokémon series' is very different from it's predeccesors, leaving fans both excited and worried about the game.
