PS5 Resellers Robbed By Supposed Buyer at Gunpoint

Thanks to the global chip shortage, PS5 has experienced significant supply shortages since it released in 2020. Scalpers have taken advantage, retailers have often sold secondhand units at a higher markup, and sadly, some have resorted to crime to obtain one.

On January 6th, Global News (thanks PSU) reported that two PS5 sellers were robbed by an "interested" buyer they met on a social media app. The crime took place in Pickering, Ontario in Canada, where a total of four PS5 units were robbed.

Officers arrived at the scene around 7:45 pm and luckily no one was hurt in the incident. This is just one of the PS5-related crimes listed since the console was launched, and another incident involving PS5's occurred last November.

As reported by Khou, a 19-year-old PS5 seller was shot by the supposed buyer after going to a friend's house to do the transaction. Thankfully, the seller thankfully survived the incident, though we cannot express enough caution to those selling valuable items online.
