Silent Hill 2 Remake is more combat-heavy than the original. As you navigate James’ journey to find his wife, you’ll face many challenges that require you to fight more often. To survive, mastering how to heal becomes crucial for your success.
Following the footsteps of its predecessors, Silent Hill 2 Remake features two modes of healing: Healing Syringes and Health Drinks. And while their purpose is similar, knowing when to use them strategically will truly make a difference. Read on to learn more about how to heal in Silent Hill 2’s Remake.
When to Heal in Silent Hill 2?
Silent Hill 2’s Remake brings a combat-intensive twist to the storyline, making ‘healing’ even more important. That being said, when do you heal? Unlike traditional titles, Silent Hill 2 doesn’t feature a dedicated health bar that showcases James’ HP. Nonetheless, there are indicators.
The first one is the appearance of red lines on the corners of your screen. These ‘lines’ are directly related to the damage you take. The redder the lines, the more your character is injured, and the more crucial is the need to heal instantly.
James’ jacket is also an indicator. With a maxed-out health bar, it’ll appear dry. As the damage starts to settle in, there will be sweat. With a significant damage output, the jacket soaks wet.
The damage you take also affects your movement: more damage is equivalent to James following a ‘limping’ movement pattern.
How to Heal in Silent Hill 2
While there are two healing items in Silent Hill 2 Remake, they differ significantly in terms of their occurrence in the game and the amount of health they regenerate.
Let’s start with the common one: the Health Drinks.
As you progress through the game and explore each area, you’ll soon come to realize that these items are present almost everywhere. While that’s good news for a combat-intensive horror game, the real challenge lies in finding them. Health drinks are fairly tiny and can be easily missed. Having a keen eye along with good exploration skills will certainly help.
Lastly, Health Drinks can roughly regenerate your health by 30%. And while they’re plentiful for most injuries, there are some cases where only a Healing Syringe can help.
Healing Syringes are particularly helpful in those “do or die” situations. The more useful they are, though, the bigger the catch is too.
Healing Syringes are rare. If you could supposedly find 5 Health Drinks from a particular area, chances are you’ll only find one or two Healing Syringes. That too, if you’re lucky.
Another downside to Healing Syringes is their slow animation time. They take longer to inject. And in doing so, they slow your character’s walking speed to add more realism. Considering all these factors, it is evident that a Healing Syringe should only be used when absolutely necessary—that too, strategically.
