Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a massive hit when it launched in 2019, but when is Star Wars Jedi Survivor set? The sequel is out now and it once again follows Cal Kestis, a young Jedi who embarks on a quest to understand the mysteries of his past and master his abilities.
Featuring the appearance of an iconic character from the series, the ending set up the sequel in really interesting ways. We're really excited about how the story will play out.
For more on the game, we also have guide on how many planets there are in Star Wars Jedi Survivor and whether the game is open world. If you looking to jump into the game at launch, we have all the details you need on the preload times.
When is Star Wars Jedi Survivor set?
As we saw in the game's trailer, Star Wars Jedi Survivor takes place a couple of years after the events of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. We see the return of Cal, who now has a beard, and his loyal droid BD-1.
And although fans have been waiting a long time to know what happened to Cere, Greez, and Merrin, there's a time jump in Jedi Survivor that puts the game in the same period as two of the franchise's most popular stories.
Respawn has confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will take place in the year 9 BBY, which is the year Obi-Wan Kenobi is set. The year 9 BBY is also the midpoint between the prequels and the original Star Wars trilogy, which is a great place to build new stories in the franchise's timeline.
Despite making a hologram appearance in the first game, it's unclear if Obi-Wan Kenobi will appear in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but it does provide us with relevant context on what is taking place in other parts of the universe. And from the events of Fallen Order, we know that Darth Vader and his unforgiving Inquisitors are on the hunt for Cal and other remaining Jedi across the universe.
While he's not yet powerful enough to take on Vader, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will seemingly let players take control of a more mature and experienced Cal, who now has various new abilities.
And although we saw Cal take on two inquisitors in Fallen Order, he's likely to face off against tougher enemies in Survivor. There are also a number of characters that could make appearances in the game, including Tala (Second Sister), whose inside knowledge of Imperial bases would be of help to Cal on his mission to stop the Empire.
As aforementioned, we might not get a chance to meet Obi-Wan Kenobi in Survivor, but there's a very good chance that Cal will come across characters from Star Wars Rebels in Jedi: Survivor. Ezra is one of the main characters in Rebels and from the flashbacks of Cal's training we saw in Fallen Order, Ezra can help Cal discover new abilities and develop his skills against the Empire.
