When the latest installment of Super Smash Bros. was called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo really went out of their way to make that title fit.
They included every character from previous games and even added a number of long-requested fan-favorites like Ridley and Simon Belmont to the base game, with more characters coming as DLC.

How to Unlock Smash Ultimate’s DLC Characters
Fast-forward to 2021 and we already have Fighters Pass 2 in Smash Ultimate, adding Min-Min from ARMS, Minecraft Steve, Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth, and now both Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Some fans are wondering if the Smash Ultimate DLC characters need to be unlocked once they are bought since the game’s base roster has to be.
Thankfully, that isn’t the case and you can gain immediate access to the DLC characters once you’ve purchased the fighters separately or have bought the first and second Smash Ultimate Fighters Pass.
If you already bought both of the Fighters Passes then you’re in luck since these fighters will be immediately available for you to use.
There was a small period of time when Sephiroth had to be unlocked through a special mode where you fought the legendary swordsman as a special bonus to those that bought Fighters Pass 2.
Sadly, that mode was only available for a limited time and now Sephiroth is available to the public that decides to get him.
Fans were probably hoping for some fun way to unlock these DLC characters but making them available from the get-go was the best thing they could have done.
Smash Ultimate is a game that’s made to be played with friends and having more fighters available will make those future multiplayer sessions way more fun.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now available on the Nintendo Switch, along with the first and second Fighters Pass that grants players access to more DLC characters, stages, and music.
