Does Oculus Quest 2 Need A PC?

So, the short answer is no, which is great news for those who don't fancy investing a ton of cash into one of the best gaming PCs out there.

The Oculus Quest 2 is actually designed to work as a standalone VR device thanks to its impressive chipset.

The Quest 2 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 SOC, which is part of the Snapdragon family - specifically the line focussed on VR and AR devices.

But how does this all look when compared to VR on PC?

What About The Graphics On The Quest 2?

Compared to the higher end PC VR experience, you'll generally find that Oculus Quest 2 games lean towards a more simplistic look.

That's not a bad thing though in the world of VR, especially considering the sheer power (and money) you have to invest into getting the absolute best of the best.

Throw yourself into titles like Beat Saber or Resident Evil 4, and it's very easy to ignore that the graphics aren't 'next-gen'.

Can You Use The Oculus Quest 2 With A PC?

Whilst the Oculus Quest 2 is designed to be used as a standalone, untethered VR headset, it is possible to connect it up and use it as a more traditional VR headset.

It requires you to have the Oculus Link cable, a powerful gaming PC to work the headset and the additional Oculus software.

Once the software has been installed, it should be a case of plugging in, selecting any games you have installed on your PC and running them from there.

Should You Wait For An Oculus Quest 3?

The Oculus Quest 3, the next rumoured iteration of the VR headset is thought to be coming in the future, but just how long will we have to wait?

When exactly the Quest 3's release date will be is still a mystery, however, some have assumed that we could see another Oculus in 2023.

It does look like Project Cambria will be hitting shelves sooner than the Quest 3, but if you're after something for right now, we'd say it's a toss-up between the Oculus Quest 2 or Rift S for instance.

We'll be back with you soon with more VR news, so be sure to check back in with us soon, and don't forget, PSVR 2 looks to be heading our way too...
