The iPhone 13 has been recognised as having a particularly impressive camera, even when up against the fantastic Google Pixel 6, so what could Apple have in store for us with their upcoming iPhone 14?

Well, a recent report suggests that we may be getting a huge upgrade to the camera, but is it as good as it sounds?

Here's everything we know about the iPhone 14's camera so far.

iPhone 14 Pro Camera Rumours

The iPhone 14 seems very much clad in mystery at the moment, but we may have got a glimpse of things to come thanks to a recent report.

A research note obtained by macbookrumors shares Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's predictions around the upcoming iPhone 14 and beyond, and by the looks of it, we may be in store for a brand new camera.

Kuo predicts that the iPhone 14 Pro's camera will be a 48MP lens, which would be a 4x increase over the sensor size of the iPhone 12.

He also goes on to say that we may see a periscope lens for future iPhones, such as the iPhone 15.

But do more pixels mean better picture quality? Well, no exactly.

Sure, with more megapixels you can get more detail at larger sizes, much like a 4K display, but you need to ensure that the sensor isn't too cramped.

Having the same size sensor ultimately means that the pixels will have to be smaller, which diminishes its success at taking photos in low light.

Another claim by Kuo predicts a solution to this though, a process known as pixel binning.

This is where the iPhone could support both 48MP and 12MP output and switch between the two depending on light levels.

If it were low light, for example, the camera would use 12MP to preserve quality, while it would switch to the 48MP camera in brighter light scenarios.

What Else Do We Know

At the moment news on the iPhone 14 is understandably limited, however, according to 9to5mac, last week analyst Jeff Pu backed up Kuo's report, specifically around the inclusion of triple-lens rear cameras, a 48MP wide lens and 12MP ultra-wide and Telephoto lenses.

We'll have to wait to see what else comes to light in the near future, however, from our side we think there's a lot to be excited about with the next iPhone.
