So you're on the hunt for a standout curved monitor and are wondering if the epic Samsung Odyssey G9 is worth it?

With all the recent talk of new monitors flying in from Samsung, including the Odyssey Ark and the QD-OLED G8QNB, we've taken a look back at one of their very best and see how it stacks up in 2022.

We haven't had a chance for a hands-on with this monitor just yet, but there are some features and specs well worth taking note of if you're thinking about going for it.

Screen Size: 49" | Curve: 1000R | Aspect Ratio: 32:9 | Resolution: 5120 x 1440p | Refresh Rate: 240hz | Response Time: 1ms | HDR: HDR 1000 | Brightness: 420 nits

The Samsung Odyssey is as impressive as it comes, but there are a few standout specs worth noting.

It packs a refresh rate of 240hz, which means you're getting super smooth action for gaming and thanks to Nvidia G-Sync it minimises screen tearing.

Now a high refresh rate doesn't always mean everything will look amazing, and more often than not you'll have to compensate a little with resolution if you're after super high fps.

Response times are another important spec to look at if you play on using this for gaming in particular.

The lower it is, the faster pixels can change (usually measured from different shades of grey or GTG).

The response time for the Samsung Odyssey G9 is listed at 1ms, however, we have come across some reviews that have it placed a little higher under testing.

Of course for competitive players you'll want to go for a smaller, faster display anyway, maybe even one of the best 360hz monitors.

Samsung Odyssey G9 Features

Now let's face it, there are loads of monitors that could be either faster, higher resolution, and even less expensive than the Samsung Odyssey G9, but why it has such mass appeal comes down to its defining features.

The 49", 1000R curved display is seriously impressive, and we think only topped by the Samsung Odyssey Ark which is tipped to be heading our way in the near future.

In our eyes, this is a setup that is tailor-made for immersive gaming and next-level productivity.

For gaming, the image will wrap around and fill your peripheral vision, giving you a sense that you're really in and amongst it.

For tasks that involve multiple tabs being open at one time, you can benefit from an unbroken, seamless display with a huge amount of desktop real estate.

And as for design, the Odyssey range actually has a bit of theme going on with their white back panels, which when combined with the blue lighting make for an impressive feature piece to your setup.

The Samsung Odyssey G9 isn't cheap, but there's a silver lining.

With other Odyssey monitors set to release, like the upcoming Samsung Odyssey G8QNB which could make for one of the best OLED monitors of 2022, we think the G9 will slowly start becoming more affordable.

In fact, we covered it in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales and it saw some significant discounts.

Compared with other ultra-wide monitors, you'll find that the Odyssey can come up for a lighter price tag too, making it even more worth considering.

Our Verdict

As far as statement monitor pieces go, we think the Samsung Oddysey G9 delivers the goods across performance and looks and is worth it if you fall into the following categories.

If you're big on immersive gaming experiences, the 1000R curve and sheer scale should deliver what you're going for.
