Is The Witcher 3 Coming To PS5 and Xbox Series X?
The simple answer is yes; The Witcher 3 will be getting a visual overhaul for PS5, Xbox Series and PC. CD Projekt Red currently continues to work on patching Cyberpunk 2077, leaving Saber Interactive to handle the upgrades for The Witcher 3. Saber Interactive are also the team behind The Witcher 3's stunning port to the Nintendo Switch, so we can expect the port to next-gen consoles and further upgrades to be good.
The Witcher 3 PS5 & Xbox Series X Upgrade Content
The next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is to be expected to introduce a few new features, many of them primarily being visual enhancements for players. For example, players can expect to see ray tracing effects and improved loading screen times. We can also expect to see new compatibility with controllers such as the new Xbox controller and DualSense.
We are aware that the developers have been working alongside a community modder, Halk Hogan, known for their 'HD Reworked' mod for the game that has seen great popularity. It is likely we'll see this mod, or further improved versions of it, implemented in the upgrade.
The Witcher 3 PS5 & Xbox Series X Upgrade Price
The next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be free to those who already own the game. Xbox One owners will have the ability to play the Xbox Series X version of the game, while PS4 owners will also be able to play the PS5 version of the game, and so forth. For those who do not own the game already, the next-gen edition of the game can be bought as a standalone game.
The Witcher 3 PS5 & Xbox Series X Release Date
As part of the game's seventh anniversary, the developer announced the next-gen port will launch in Q4 of 2022 much to the excitement of fans.
We now know that the Witcher 3 next-gen update will arrive in just a few weeks on December 14, 2022.
Why Is The Witcher 3’s Upgrade Delayed?
As noted by CD Projekt Red in a previous statement, the delay comes as a result of 'recommendations supplied by the teams supervising the development' of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It seems likely that the developers do not want to repeat the past, and thus 'want to make it right' as they finish off polishing the games for players, avoiding the much-publicised launch problems in Cyberpunk 2077.
That's all there is to know about when you can expect to see The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on your PS5, Xbox Series X, or even just looking polished off on your PC. We'll update this space as we learn more about developments. In the meantime, check out the latest news on season 3 of The Witcher.
