Everyone’s favourite gnarly dude Tony Hawk has had a significant impact on the gaming landscape over the years, with many players having spent significant portions of their childhoods grinding and ollieing away the hours in one of the Pro Skater titles bearing his name.
Sadly, it seems those who crave a return to the skateparks of their adolescence in glorious HD haven’t gotten as many chances to do so as they might have had events behind the scenes gone a different way.
The new information illuminating these circumstances comes via a recent Twitch stream featuring Tony Hawk himself, during which the birdman discussed what happened to a planned remaster of Pro Skater games 3 and 4.
Planned Pro Skater Remaster Failed to Stick the Landing
Speaking during a Twitch stream by andyTHPS, Hawk discussed where the Pro Skater franchise is currently at, saying: “I wish I could say we had something in the works, but, you know, Vicarious Visions kinda got disbanded and Activision’s going through all of their stuff, so I don’t know what’s next.”
On the subject of Pro Skater games 3 and 4 being remastered in a similar style to the the first two games, Hawk said: “That was the plan, even up until the release date of (Pro Skater 1 + 2 remastered), we were going 3 and four, and then Vicarious got kinda absorbed and then (Activision Blizzard) were looking for other developers and then it was over.”
On Activision’s efforts to find another studio to make the game, Hawk added: “They were trying to find someone to do 3 and 4, but they just didn’t really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious, so they took other pitches from other studios, like ‘what would you do with the THPS title?’ and they didn’t like anything they heard.”
Reaction to this news on social media has seen players mourn the loss of the game they seemingly aren’t getting, at least for now, with both Reddit and ResetEra hosting forlorn reflections.
In the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, user noimdirtydan14 said: “Hopefully the series gets a deserving reboot when the Microsoft/Activision buyout is complete. THPS 1+2 was an amazing blast of nostalgia.”
Meanwhile, on ResetEra, user Roubjon said: “Man, what a huge bummer. The world needs more high-budget skateboarding games.”
