Is Oculus Go Discontinued?
In short, yes. Back in June 2020, Oculus announced that they would no longer be selling the Go headset directly, signalling the end of one of the first proper wireless VR headsets around.
This went hand in hand with the point that no new apps for the Oculus Go could be added to the Oculus Store following December 2020.
The headset is at least still supported for bug fixes and security patches until 2022, but following the end of the support period, the Go will not be supported at all for any longer.
Why Has The Oculus Go Been Discontinued?
The official reason for the Go being discontinued is due to the fact that Oculus would be focusing more on their Quest lineup of headsets for both consumer and enterprise usage.
Since then, the original Quest has also been superseded by the Quest 2. With its wide range of usage applications, VR gaming included, the Quest 2 is one of the best VR headsets money can buy, and it makes sense as to why Oculus would focus their time on a newer product.
It's got a great games library with the likes of Beat Saber, Vacation Simulator and Superhot VR already supported, with plenty more brilliant titles on the way including both GTA San Andreas VR and Cities VR.
Should I Buy An Oculus Quest 2?
If you're looking for a fantastic all-in-one VR experience for a lower cost than a lot of the other headsets out there, then going for the Quest 2 seems like a no-brainer, especially given its versatility.
You don't need a PC to use it, meaning you can play any one of its games thanks to its 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, dependent upon the model purchased, and with that capacity, it'll also allow you to install a fair few games, too, even without any expandable storage.
If you want it to though, the Quest 2 can play Steam games when connected up to a powerful gaming PC for a more traditional tethered VR experience, like with the Rift S, for instance.
In addition, with both the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest Pro some way off by way of their release dates, your best option to enjoy a marvellous all-round VR experience at the moment is through the Quest 2.
