If you'd like to know if the Meta Quest 3 will have expandable storage, we've got you covered right here.

Here's everything you need to know, including how many games the headset might be able to store.

Will Meta Quest 3 Have Expandable Storage?

It would be nice for the Quest 3 to feature expandable storage, given that this would be an area for the headset to improve over the Quest 2, as it does not support expandable storage in the form of upgrading either the RAM or the hard drive's capacity.

This could be achieved primarily through bundled a Micro SD card slot inside the headset to increase the storage capacity which would allow you to install even more games and apps.

What Are The Built-In Storage Options On The Quest 3 Likely To Be?

If the Quest 3 doesn't support expandable storage, then it would be nice to know that it will have a good amount of built-in storage. If it does, then having a bigger internal hard drive will just allow for more games to be installed.

For reference, the Quest 2 features either 128GB or 256GB, so it may be the case that the Quest 3 utilises the same internals, although it would arguably make more sense to up-rate the capacity to either 512GB or 1TB of storage.

As VR gaming becomes more powerful and games become more detailed, it's likely that their file sizes will increase. Therefore, having a higher amount of capacity works twofold.

Firstly, it will allow you to have more space now for current games and secondly, it will allow you to futureproof yourself for when bigger games by way of file size inevitably arrive.

How Many Games Will The Quest 3 Be Able To Store?

This point depends on the internal storage capabilities of the Quest 3, but using the Quest 2, it is possible to get an estimate.

The base model Quest 2's 128GB storage will allow you to store around 20-30 games, so you can expect the Quest 3 to be able to store a similar amount if the hard drive capacities remain the same.

This is because most Quest 2 games are around 1.5-2GB in size, although some can be larger, such as Star Wars: Tales From Galaxy's Edge at 5.69GB and Myst at 9GB.

It would be reasonable to assume that the Quest 3's internal storage will be able to store a similar amount of games to the Quest 2 at the very least, but with expandable storage and larger capacities of built-in storage too, it could store a whole lot more.
