Will Meta Quest 3 Have Full Body Tracking?
It may be possible for the Quest 3 to have full-body tracking as it is in this area where the new generation could improve over the Quest 2.
Whilst the Quest 2 didn't support full-body tracking natively, there were some aftermarket peripherals that claimed to bring support for it to the headset, with varying degrees of success.
If it can bring native support for full-body tracking with some additional official peripherals, then it may go on to become one of the best VR headsets around.
What Is Full Body Tracking?
In short, full-body tracking is where your entire body is mapped into a virtual world which allows you to move around fully in real-time.
It works in a similar vein to hand tracking, although that of course tracks less of your body and only maps your hands in VR.
What Would Full Body Tracking Do On The Meta Quest 3?
Full-body tracking would essentially allow for a more realistic VR gaming experience as your entire body could be mapped into VR as opposed to your hands with controllers.
It could mean that VR is paired with a Kinect-like experience which opens up a lot of possibilities for new games for the Quest 3, and therefore could add plenty more games to an already large games library.
Having it could also allow for the metaverse to be more realistic if users will be able to fully walk around within a virtual space and meet other players.
Games like Horizon Worlds currently feature characters without legs, and if the title is brought to Quest 3 with full-body tracking support, it can make the metaverse experience more life-like.
If the Quest 3 can right the wrongs of the Quest 2 by also bringing support for expandable storage, Bluetooth and also keep some of its best features, like not needing a PC for usage and also the ability to play Steam games when connected to a PC, then it'll be a great headset.
