Although playing Valheim with friends can be a lot of fun, you also run the risk of mysteriously losing resources. No doubt your pal decided taking one item won't hurt, but when this becomes a regular occurrence, it can get a little tedious. This is why it's great to set up a stash that only you can access, sure, let the other players take your Neck Meat, but keep your Silver safe! Here's how to set up a Personal Chest and a Ward.

How To Craft a Personal Chest
Personal Chests are a great way to keep your resources safe, the below recipe will allow you to create one:
- 10x Fine Wood
- 8x Iron
The only way to quickly destroy a Personal Chest is with a Hammer, though only the owner can do this. Otherwise, other players can destroy it with an axe, although it will take an extremely long time. Using the highest quality axe, the Blackmetal Axe takes up to 3 minutes to destroy the chest.
How To Set Up a Ward
Wards can be used to stop other players from interacting with your items, whether that be chests, doors, etc, to build one you'll need the following resources:
- 5x Fine Wood
- 5x Greydwarf Eyes
- 1x Surtling Core
Fine Wood can be obtained from Oak and Birch trees, Greydwarf Eyes will drop when killing a Greydwarf and Surtling Cores can be found in Burial Chambers, dropped from Surtlings and in random chests. Use your hammer once you have these items and select the Ward, build it and use E to activate it. If you want to allow others to access things within your ward you'll need to deactivate it use E again, then allow the player to activate it, turn it off and on again and that player should now have access.
Hopefully, now you don't have to worry about losing any of your hard-earned loot. If you're curious what future plans are in the works for Valheim check out our roadmap piece here, otherwise, keep up to date with the latest patch notes!
